Michael Okpara University Halts Academic Operations Amidst Student Demonstrations Against Fee Increase

Academic operations at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture in Umuahia, Abia State, have been indefinitely suspended. the University management took action following widespread student protests over an increase in school fees. In a memo signed and issued on Tuesday by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, the University announced the suspension of academic activities. Video footage shared with this news outlet depicts students of the university blocking major routes on campus in protest against the tuition fee hike. The scenes show students chanting slogans such as 'we no go gree o, we no go gree' while holding various placards. Additionally, some students expressed their discontent on social media platforms. There were also allegations that the Vice-Chancellor personally intervened in an examination hall to remove students who had not paid their fees.
